How I Started the Quest

You can kick off The Silver Smugglers by following the quest marker north into Tamba. Talk to Fujitaka if you really want to, but he's tucked away west of the marker and easy to miss—I didn't waste time looking for him. Going straight to the interrogator marker is the move.

The Interrogator

When I reached the marker, The Interrogator was right there waiting. Playing as Naoe, I stayed low and popped the lookouts with Kunai first—that's the bread and butter. Then I crept up and assassinated him. Even if the assassination doesn't delete his health bar, don't sweat it; he'll be hurting. His attack patterns are simple, but he can poison you fast and he throws a lot of unparryable attacks, so don't get cocky. With Yasuke, the stealth route is rough because he's loud and his swings are slow, but if you know his timing, you can just out-muscle the guy.

The Silver Trader

Next up was The Silver Trader, east of Sotomo Gate inside Genbao Fort. I also grabbed the fast-travel viewpoint there—two birds, one stone. This fight can be way harder than the Interrogator for Naoe if you're underleveled and can't one-shot the target. He posts up in a courtyard with his whole crew, so I cleared the soldiers quietly before going for the assassination. After that, a 1v1 wasn't too bad. He uses unparryable attacks, so Yasuke's stagger can be a lifesaver here. When he dropped, I grabbed Woe's Fog, a legendary Kanabo, plus 310 mon.

The Teppo Merchant

The Teppo Merchant hangs out in Fukuchimaya Castle in Tamba. I didn't fight every guard on the way in—that's a fool's errand. The target stands in the southwest corner. I took out the soldiers beside him, then slipped back into hiding and waited for the aggro to wear off. Once things cooled down, I assassinated him. For Yasuke players, this one's a piece of cake; when he hits the ground, use a ground attack to chunk his health.

The Teppo Smuggler

The Teppo Smuggler can be found at Yakami Fort in Tamba, and the place is crawling with enemies. As Yasuke, I unlocked the Kanabo's grab skill and used it to put the target on the ground before following up with a massive ground attack. As Naoe, stealth is your only real ticket unless you enjoy getting swarmed. The reward was an epic Teppo named Mai's Warning and 385 mon.

The Slaver

The Slaver was on a big ship right next to Tsuruga Sea Port in Wakasa. I used Naoe without hesitation—Yasuke attracts way too much attention on a boat. I snuck aboard, got behind the target, and assassinated him. If he survived, I immediately followed up with skills to finish the job. You can Kunai the nearby men first, but that might spook the target. After the kill, I got an epic Teppo called Nanban's Curse and a quest item.

The Smuggler Leader

At Mai's Mansion, north of Himeji Castle in Harima, the Smuggler Leader wasn't hostile at first, and her men didn't attack. I could have chatted, but I went for the pragmatic play. I crouched, moved behind the ronin sitting next to her, and assassinated her. You can one-shot her that way, and if not, your skills will clean up. If you fight her head-on, watch out for her chain attacks and bleed. She dropped an epic Naginata, Glimmering Sway, and 255 mon. I grabbed the quest item and went back to Fujitaka.

Yoshisada

The final target, Yoshisada, was at Miyazu Castle in Tamba. Here's the kicker: you can't just sneak behind him and assassinate him—you have to talk first. After the conversation, I broke his armor and immediately went into hiding. Once he stopped targeting me, I assassinated him. If your level is high enough, a straight fight isn't too bad, and Yasuke works well since the initial assassination isn't possible anyway. After the dust settled, I returned to Lord Fujitaka and wrapped up the quest.
